After leaving Custer State Park on the 6th, we headed toward the Big Horn National Forest with an overnight stay at a dispersed campsite we found. Nothing special, just a quiet, free place to spend the night. We packed up early but it was already hot so we were looking forward to making it to a higher elevation to cool things off.

It was a long but beautiful drive through Wyoming. When we made it to the forest, we stopped at a couple different campgrounds to see if we could find a spot. There are quite a few established campgrounds to choose from. The two we looked at were really nice with wooded sites and streams running through the campgrounds. Too bad they were full! We knew there were also some free dispersed sites available so we kept going. We looked at a couple of ok places but they were crowded and seemed more geared toward campers with horses. It had been a long day of driving and we were really ready to stop for the night. Fortunately, we decided to explore a little side road and found a lovely spot tucked in the trees. It had a beautiful view of the mountains, a stream nearby and was next to a huge field of wildflowers. It was the perfect home for the next couple of days.

We slept late due to the chilly mornings, hiked, used our solar shower, cooked, hung out around the campfire in the evening and just generally relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings.
